Dear HKCBA Members and Friends,
2017 is extra special for HKCBA as we get ready to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region. Whether you are a corporate professional or entrepreneur working in Canada with operations in Asia; an Asian company or investor looking for opportunities in Canada, the HKCBA provides a great forum for networking and information exchange.
Today, the HKCBA is one of the largest bilateral trade associations in Canada with sections from coast to coast in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Atlantic. The HKCBA would not have been as successful without the support of our members and our strategic partners, including the members of our Hong Kong Family (comprised of a number of government and not-for-profit organizations as well as businesses based in Hong Kong). As in previous years, each of our eight sections will be kicking off 2017 with a series of events intended to highlight our core values: Networking and engagement; information exchange; and celebrating the success of Canadian companies which have successfully expanded to Hong Kong and Asia. With a re-invigorated strategy, we are pleased to present a revamped events program as well as new services to members.
I encourage you to link into local sections to see what kinds of events they are planning. In addition to some great guests speaker events, there are a lot of activities about the “Belt and Road” Mission in September 2017 which will unfold unparalleled business opportunities for sectors like infrastructure, project financing, professional services, transportation and logistics. The Mission is designed to facilitate Canadian participants to obtain first-hand intelligence and meet relevant players of the Belt and Road Initiative – and ultimately to facilitate themselves to make informed decisions on their strategies and action plans to capitalize on the market potentials of countries along the Belt and Road.
The 2017 HKCBA National Conference will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 1st and 2nd. The National Conference will uncover recent trends in Hong Kong, China and Asia, celebrate successful business initiatives between Canada and Hong Kong as well as share insights on Hong Kong's startup friendly environment - learn about the opportunities for Canada. We will also be highlighting Canada's entrepreneurial spirit with our flagship National Investment Pitch Competition where post-secondary student teams will pitch their business ideas, leveraging the "Canada - Hong Kong Advantage", live to conference attendees and a panel of seasoned professionals for an opportunity of $50,000 in cash and prizes.
This is a great opportunity for you learn fast hand all the opportunities and advantages of doing business in Hong Kong through to China and the rest of the Asia. I invite you to join me at the National Conference and look forward to learning and sharing your business opportunities. See you in Vancouver in June!
National Chair, HKCBA
